PRIMARY GOALS OF A YOGA PRACTICE FOR KNEE HEALTH
- Release chronic tension to create space
- Enhance circulation, as it is essential for healing
- Improve mobility (increase range of motion), then:
- Strengthen weaker areas
- Develop correct posture and alignment
WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR HEALTHY KNEES?
- Flexible calves
- Open hips and hip flexors (both front and back)
- Strong and open ankles
- Strength in the rectus femoris, vastus medialis, and vastus lateralis (thigh muscles)
- Body awareness, muscular engagement, and mindfulness can significantly improve our alignment
- It is safest to begin exploring poses without weight-bearing practices.
